Andrew P. Barsom vCard

Partner

Andrew Barsom’s practice is focused primarily within the areas of Banking and Financial Institution Litigation; Commercial Litigation; Landlord-Tenant matters, and Commercial and Personal Debt Collection.  Andrew’s experience includes working with clients in the financial services and banking industries, lenders, commercial landlords, assisted living communities, and skilled nursing facilities.  Within each of his practice areas, Andrew focuses on the prosecution of litigation on behalf of the Firm’s clients, whether derived from contractual rights, leasehold obligations, or for services provided.  Andrew has successfully prosecuted virtually all types of default related litigation including residential and commercial foreclosure actions, contract collection actions, prejudgment remedy applications, and summary process (eviction) actions. In connection with the prosecution of this wide variety of default related actions, Andrew has experience with virtually every stage of default related litigation from initial strategy assessment through briefing and argument of appeals in front of Connecticut’s highest courts.  Through his experience representing clients – large and small, Andrew understands how to map out the most effective method of seeking to achieve each particular client’s desired result, using  litigation or, when appropriate, a more creative resolution such as a structured payment plan or settlement agreement.

At the onset of each engagement, Andrew and his team analyze the facts of the underlying dispute, research applicable claims, and fashion advice regarding a cost effective strategy specifically tailored to the facts of the particular matter.  To effectuate a strategy that has been formulated in partnership with the client, Andrew utilizes all applicable procedures to advance the interests of the client including attachment of real property or liquid assets prior to the institution of the legal action, as well as post-judgment procedures, such as financial institution, wage, and/or personal property executions, the examination of judgment debtor procedures, and judgment liens after completion of a litigation.

In addition to his experience prosecuting litigation on behalf of clients, Andrew also has substantial experience negotiating, drafting and advising clients regarding loan modification agreements, short sale agreements, forbearance agreements, settlement agreements, stipulated judgments, voluntary liens on real property, and other alternatives to litigation.

Although the main focus of Andrew’s practice is the prosecution of offensive actions on behalf of the Firm’s clients, there are also many occasions in which he will undertake the defense of such actions on behalf of a client including defense of cross or counterclaims filed in a pending action.  This ability to “play both sides of the field” within the financial world provides additional opportunity for insight into the motives and methods which are most effective in pursuit of both types of representation so as to maximize the benefit to the client no matter what the particular client’s ultimate goal or situation may be.

When not practicing law, Andrew enjoys spending time with his family and two dogs.  As with all of our attorneys, Andrew is an avid sports fan who enjoys following his favorite teams throughout the year.
